Recently, scientists came to the conclusion that active video games can help people suffering from diabetes control blood sugar levels and improve overall health.
In the studies involved 220 people who had diabetes mellitus of the second type. Half of the participants in the experiment had to play a video game of Nintendos Wii Fit Plus every day for half an hour for at least three months. Then the scientists conducted a survey of participants and found that people, from a group of players, had improved blood sugar and reduced weight. When the other participants of the experiment also began to play video games, their performance also improved. According to experts, diabetics are useful in any form of physical exercise, even in the game. Most people with diabetes, in order to control the disease enough to adhere to proper nutrition and conduct regular training.
To lead an active image is especially important for people with diabetes, because the body in this case effectively consumes insulin, and regular physical exercises help to stay in good physical shape and not gain weight. Professor Stefan Martin and his colleagues from West Germany who conducted this study suggest that an active computer game is a good alternative to physical exercises that many people (for various reasons) can not or do not want to do.
However, a third of the participants in the experiment did not reach the end of the deadline and refused to play a video game, so experts believe that convincing people to play will be more difficult than doing gymnastics. Those participants who nevertheless fulfilled the research conditions and played a day for 30 minutes, noted improvements in well-being and quality of life.
Doctors emphasize that regular physical activity, proper nutrition and prescribed medications will help people with the second type of diabetes not only control their condition, but also reduce the risk of possible complications associated with the disease.
When choosing the type of physical activity, the main thing is to focus on the person's preferences and desires. Some people like to spend their time actively during the game process, others are more comfortable doing normal physical exercises.
Experts in the future plan to conduct research, the purpose of which will be to determine the long-term impact of computer games in comparison with other approaches.
