The population of the Earth will exceed seven billion people already in 2011. This opinion was expressed by Harvard University professor and demography specialist David Bloom.

According to Bloom's forecasts, in 2011, about 135 million people will be born on Earth, and the number of deaths will be about 57 million. Thus, the planet's population will increase by 78 million people. At the same time, according to the United States Census Bureau, there are currently 6,930 million people living on Earth.

A Harvard University employee believes that by 2050 the planet's population will increase by 2.3 billion people. The main increase (97 percent) will be provided by developing countries, including 49 percent of the planet's new inhabitants who will be born on the African continent.

Bloom noted that specific changes in the Earth's population will depend on whether the fertility rate (the number of births per woman) continues to decline. Depending on this indicator, by 2050 there will be between 8.1 and 10.6 billion people living on the planet, and by 2100 - between 6.2 and 15.8 billion.
