The population of the Earth will exceed seven billion people already in 2011. This opinion was expressed by David Bloom, a professor at Harvard University, a specialist in the field of demography.

According to Bloom's forecasts, in 2011 about 135 million people will be born on Earth, and the number of dead will be about 57 million. Thus, the world's population will increase by 78 million inhabitants. At the same time, according to the United States Census Bureau, currently 6 930 million people live on Earth.

An employee at Harvard University believes that by 2050 the world's population will increase by 2.3 billion people. The main increase (97 percent) will be provided by developing countries, including 49 percent of new inhabitants of the planet are born on the African continent.

Bloom noted that specific changes in the population of the Earth will depend on whether the fertility rate continues to decrease (the number of births per woman). Depending on this indicator, by 2050 on the planet will live from 8.1 to 10.6 billion people, and by 2100 - from 6.2 to 15.8 billion.
