In Germany, high-speed freeways are widespread, and today a new expressway is being built for cyclists only. According to some reports, the bicycle motorway will have a length of about 100 km, and will connect 2 cities - Hamm and Daisburg, the route will run through 8 cities.

At present, the construction of a new bicycle line is not yet over. The first section of the autobahn was opened in 2010, the second in November last year, connecting Mülheim and Essen. But even an unfinished highway is already an excellent option for intercity travel.
In most cases, the paths for cyclists already fit on existing highways, but even if there is a good fencing system, there is a high probability that tracks for amateur cyclists may disappear. It is planned that the new thoroughfare will be continuous and connect not only the cities, but also run through the city centers.
To date, financing the construction of a bicycle highway is a major problem. Roads for cars are built at the expense of federal funds, the construction of bicycle routes lies entirely with local authorities. This makes it difficult to build a bicycle highway, as its route runs between cities. Half of the amount necessary for construction is ready to be provided by the European Union, part will be allocated to the Ruhr region. In Berlin they intend to use advertising to collect the missing amount. It is assumed that along the road will be placed banners with the necessary information.
According to preliminary estimates, 1 km of the bicycle path costs about 2 million euros (1 km of the motorway costs 10 million euros).
The cycling highway between cities is the transport policy project of the Federal German Republic, it is assumed that this approach will increase the number of amateur cyclists. One member of the cyclist noted that after the completion of the highway, many people will want to go from car to bicycle, and this will significantly relieve the central city roads.
In 2014, the German Ministry of Transport conducted a study in which it was determined that the new bicycle route would be able to replace more than 50,000 road trips. But the main advantage can be considered the undoubted health benefits that people will get when riding a bicycle.
