Specialists from the research agency CSIRO (Australia) have developed a unique method that allows you to analyze the retina at a distance. A special system loads the image of the eye retina to the cloud data store via satellite communication. Then all these patients will be able to analyze the ophthalmologists, regardless of their place of residence.
A new diagnostic system helps to prevent vision loss in patients who live far from central clinics and can not undergo a full examination. The new technology has already been tested for almost a thousand people. Specialists, analyzing the data of all patients, found in almost 70 of them an increased risk of complete blindness.
In addition, experts have recently tested another diagnostic method that can detect a serious eye disease leading to blindness - glaucoma.
At the University of London, the specialists were able to identify several cases of a dangerous illness in the process of how the participants of the experiment simply looked through the excerpts of the films. Experts are sure that glaucoma can be identified by eye movements, and in the early stages.
In the experiment, 76 people participated, of which 44 patients were already diagnosed with glaucoma.
Initially, specialists checked the vision of volunteers and assessed the severity of the disease in patients with glaucoma.
Then the participants of the experiment needed to see a few excerpts from the films, at this time the scientists followed the movement of the eyes of the volunteers. As a result, scientists were able to identify in some patients from a healthy group the symptoms of a dangerous disease.
Experts note that the detection of glaucoma at the initial stages of development can prevent a complete loss of vision. The researchers suggest that a new diagnostic method will identify a dangerous eye disease in the early stages, when the situation can still be remedied.
Another achievement in the field of ophthalmology was the invention of bionic lenses, which allow the return of 100% vision. Lenses are implanted in the eye with a special syringe in less than 10 minutes, after 10-15 seconds the lenses already take the necessary shape and begin to "work".
According to the developers, such lenses not only correct vision, but also contribute to its recovery. They are made of materials that are biocompatible with the mucous eye, which do not lead to biophysical changes over time.
Recently, specialists have been trying to develop methods for delivering drugs with lenses (for example, nanocapsules in the form of contact lenses, which can replace eye drops in the future).
The new bionic lenses are completely transparent, have the form of a disc (1/10 in size for conventional lenses). However, despite the size, the lenses showed good efficiency.
The non-toxic polymer was used for manufacturing, they contain several dozen nanoscrews with the drug. Small lenses reliably attach to the eyes and do not interfere with blinking.
