Recently, the issue of lack of clean drinking water, which threatens the lives of millions of people from all over the world, is becoming ever more acute. The increase in the population of the earth, climate change and other factors lead to a decrease in the sources of drinking water. To solve this problem, a method is needed that would help reduce water consumption.
Earlier, devices and methods have been described that help save water and electricity, but the development of Canadian specialists allows the use of water from the bathroom or shower for the toilet tank.
Its method of saving water was suggested by a team of researchers from Vancouver: the ReFlow system is designed for the purification and reuse of water. A special device for sewage collection is built in the system, which after cleaning and disinfection can be reused for the toilet. According to the developers, such a system will save about 30% of fresh water (by average indicators).
A special device is connected to the overflow opening in the bath, from where the drained water enters the tank, then, as necessary, water flows through the filtration and disinfection systems into the toilet flush tank. The advantage of the new water treatment system is simplicity. The developers noted that to install such a device you only need a screwdriver and a little time (not more than an hour), while one person can cope with this task, and the installation cost will be approximately $ 800.
The Re-Flow system can be installed in a bath of various types, so there is no need to carry out major repairs in the bathroom. Devices of this type have several advantages, in addition to their main purpose - saving water - they help reduce the burden on urban sewage treatment plants, which helps to preserve water supply and ecology. Some regions suffer from seasonal drought, and such a system will help residents to endure crisis times less severely.
The developers have created a prototype model of the system, with the help of which they managed to prove that their project really works. Now the specialists are busy working out the components of the system so that it can be put into serial production.
It is worth noting that the design of the Re-Flow system meets all the necessary norms and standards, including international planning standards and standards of health and quality control of recycled water.
To implement their idea, the developers decided to use the crowd-hosting system, which implies the cooperation of people who voluntarily combine money or other means to support political companies, scientific projects, start-up companies, small businesses and much more.
Canadian specialists are required to implement the project 50 thousand dollars, but the collection of funds is rather slow, not all believe in the success of this project and do not want to risk their own means. But, despite this, the idea of re-use of water for own needs is quite promising.
