The development of new technologies, the emergence and dissemination of new knowledge about affordable food, the desire of people to take care of oral hygiene led to the fact that chewing gum has become one of the most popular and popular culinary products. Experts have long recognized the chewing gum as a good tool in the fight against caries or hygienic diseases of the oral cavity. In the presence of pluses, the chewing gum has several major drawbacks. One of them is that the regular use of chewing gum leads to the appearance of excessive weight.
Researchers from the state of Ohio (USA) found that chewing gum several times increases the risk of obesity. The fact is that as a refreshing agent usually choose a chewing gum with a mint flavor, and the taste of mint increases the desire to eat something high-calorie and sweet. Experts are sure that with its predestination chewing gum, of course, copes: breathing becomes fresh, the oral cavity is cleaned after a single meal, a person feels more comfortable. But, in any case, you need to accept the fact that using gum can influence the appearance of extra pounds.
The results of recent experiments have shown that loyal fans of chewing gum are those people who prefer high-calorie food to light salads and snacks. Specialists said that this pattern is due to the fact that the composition of refreshing gum necessarily includes a flavor of menthol or mint, which can change the taste preferences. In particular, flavors affect the taste of healthy food - fresh vegetables and fruits - they may seem unpleasant and tasteless. The human body requires foods with a high sugar content and a persistent sweet smell, as a person gets used to the pronounced sweet taste of chewing gum.
American scientists conducted a study in which more than forty volunteers took part. Each of them was offered to play a simple, children's game, the prize for victory in which was a different type of food: fresh seasonal fruit or fast food, chips, sweet candy and soda. All participants before the passage of the levels of the game for 15-20 minutes chewed sweet chewing gum with mint flavor or with a fruit unsweetened taste. The result of the experiment showed that those people who initially chose mint chewing gum, participated without enthusiasm in competitions, the prize for which judges appointed fruits or vegetables. Participants admitted that they would be much more pleased with sweet sweets, chips or Coca-Cola.
Some people are sure that chewing gum helps them lose weight, because they consume at least half the food during the day. This statement can be considered somewhat true: the chewing gum actually helps to get rid of the obsessive feeling of hunger. Lovers of chewing gum do use less products, which, however, are high-calorie.
Those people who refused to use chewing gum before the contest or chose a cud with citrus or not too sweet taste, were pleased with the prizes in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables and other options for a healthy snack.
Earlier, scientists from the UK proved that the use of chewing gum stimulates brain activity and contributes to increased concentration on small details. Gum lovers turned out to be more accurate, neat and quicker than those people who refused gum.
