For a long time nutritionists are asking themselves: what is the relationship between nutrition and a healthy sleep? Recent studies of experts from Pennsylvania (US) maximally brought us closer to the answer to the actual for all the inhabitants of the world issue. The study allowed to analyze and determine the average duration of a quiet sleep of people with different feeding systems.
The study, conducted by specialists from the United States, allows you to draw conclusions about the pronounced relationship between the quality of a person's sleep and his diet. The head of the experiment identified several categories of sleep duration: - less than 5 hours - too short sleep, insufficient for rest - from 5 to 7 hours - short sleep - 7-9 hours - normal healthy sleep of an adult - 9 hours or more - long, associated with a painful condition, a dream.
The results of a survey conducted among a large number of adults showed that in people who consume insufficient amounts of complex carbohydrates and liquids, sleep becomes more restless and, as a result, too short. People who sleep longer than 8-9 hours usually do not drink coffee, black tea and chocolate, and they notice a lack of choline in their bodies. Choline is considered to be a vitamin B group, and a high content of this substance is seen in chicken eggs and by-products.
Alcohol also has a significant effect on the sleep of a person: in people with alcohol dependence, sleep with time becomes restless and intermittent, for those who drink alcohol from time to time, sleep becomes longer than that of teetotalers.
On the other hand, the researchers found that people who sleep for about 6 hours, do not eat too much food. Healthy eight-hour sleep, which, according to doctors, is optimal for recovery after a day's work, is present for those who eat balanced and have no bad habits. People who consume insufficient amounts of drinking water (experts say about 1-1.5 liters daily) sleep less than 6 hours, despite fatigue.
At the moment, scientists are interested in the topic of the relationship between sleep and the food system. The head of the study announced that the next theme for the experiments would be the determination of the ability to influence the sleep of a person through various diets and combinations of products. The scientist believes that the human body can be controlled even with a separately balanced diet. Also, according to the expert, determining the ideal combination of products that could provide an optimally healthy and sound sleep could be a revolutionary invention in dietetics.
Without a doubt, the quality and duration of sleep is affected by each product individually, as well as their combination, total calories, balance of nutrients and vitamins.
The duration of sleep can also affect chronic diseases, age and the general physical condition of a person. It is worth remembering that in old people sleep becomes more restless and sensitive, and for diabetics, a five-hour sleep is more likely a norm than a deviation.
