A team of scientists from Princeton University came to the conclusion that the United States of America would be able to switch to the production of synthetic fuels and refuse to import crude oil.
Experts say that in the next 30-40 years synthetic fuel produced on the basis of natural gas, coal and biomass will become economically justified.
Experts say that in addition to the fact that the US can reduce its dependence on imports of crude oil, switching to the production of synthesized fuel, it will also significantly reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and especially carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
"Another important aspect of the refusal of mineral fuels is that the synthetic fuel is almost identical to the fuel that is produced by distillation of oil and is used for engines working on diesel fuel, classic gasoline and aviation kerosene," says Christopoulos Floudas, lead author of the study , Professor of Pristone University.
Experts analyzed several models of transition to synthetic fuel, given how economically feasible this transition will be, and whether it will be possible to synthesize enough fuel in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by half.
