A team of researchers led by the director of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at the American University Terry Davidson argues that excessive consumption of saturated fats and refined carbohydrates threatens that under their influence our brains are adjusted for further overeating.
According to Professor Davidson, the whole department of the brain is the hippocampus, responsible for training, memory and suppression of memories.
Scientists suggest that the mechanism of exposure to "bad" fats and carbohydrates is as follows: under the influence of these substances, the hippocampus suppresses thoughts about the dangers of those products that people use. That's why lovers of not very healthy food, besides having more than one kilogram, eat much more than the norm.
"A person gets into a vicious circle: he overeats, thereby setting up the brain for further overeating, and every time eats more," says Professor Davidson. - If a person "feeds" the brain with such food, then there is nothing surprising in the fact that his body begins the process of obesity. "
The results of the research of scientists do not say that it is useless or impossible to struggle with excess weight. However, those who started to follow their diet should not relax and even sometimes, as a reward, allow themselves "goodies" from the previous menu.
It is possible to get rid of kilograms, but it is unlikely that the hippocampus can be returned to its normal functioning, therefore, those who are on the path of "correction" must daily struggle with old habits and suppress the habit of overeating.
