"This weekend, the amount of ice cover in the Arctic Ocean will reach a record low level, caused by major changes in the climate of our planet, which quite eloquently testify that the developing global warming, which was provoked by man's technological activities, has a huge and is truly important, in particular, for the Polar region, "- such a message was published in the authoritative British edition of The Guardian.
From information provided by the head of the environmental protection department of the newspaper The Guardian, John Vidal, it follows that the melting of Arctic ice in the current year occurs at an unprecedented speed that can reach more than 100,000 square kilometers per day. It is predicted that if the rate of melting of the glaciers of the Arctic does not drop, then in a few days it will be able to approach the record level that was observed in 2007. These disappointing data have already been confirmed by scientists from such countries as Denmark, Norway, Japan and Germany.
Julien Strov, a scientist from the National Center for Data Acquisition on Snow and Ice Cover in the State of Colorado (USA), gave an interview to The Guardian, in which he stressed: "Unless something really extraordinary happens, we will soon be able to witness the fact , that the record of 2007 will be beaten. " It is expected that this event may well happen even this weekend and almost certainly, next week.
Only in recent days the Arctic has lost its ice cover with a truly huge speed - 100,000 square kilometers per day. This circumstance in itself is a record for August. In addition, it should be noted that nature actually undergoes rather rapid changes - added Julien Strov.
"Significant changes are now being made to the energy balance in which the Arctic was," the scientist continues to inform. There is a steady increase in temperature in this area. The climate is changing, and we are losing more and more seasonal ice. According to estimates, which were carried out by Julien Straw, approximately by 2050 the ice cover in the Arctic can disappear altogether.
In addition, the American scientist shared his observations: Some 15 years ago I did not even imagine that I could ever witness such a major change in climate. And, probably, no one expected such a rapid development of events. The season, during which the melting of the Arctic ice melts, has now become much longer. Twenty years ago it lasted about a month. Now, the same process takes as long as 3 months. I will give an example. Last week, the temperature in the Arctic was at 14 degrees Celsius. Which in itself is considered high enough for this area.
