UK specialists sound alarm - more than a third of the country's population have constant problems with sleep disorders. This disease is characterized by the difficulty of falling asleep, a short period of night rest or lack thereof.

Scientists Northumbrian University revealed a high incidence of acute insomnia and a tendency to spread it. An increasing number of people suffer from this disease.

The causes of disorders can be neuroses, cardiovascular and mental illness.

The diagnosis of "acute insomnia" is put to people who have interruptions in sleep for three or more months. Sleep disorders can cause the onset and development of depression.

Specialists have tried to find ways to treat this problem in order to prevent at an early stage the risk of developing chronic insomnia.

Dr. Jason Ellis, the head of the Northumbrian University Center for Sleep Studies, in collaboration with colleagues from the US, Canada and Glasgow, has been studying this phenomenon.

They analyzed the process of night rest for patients with sleep disorders and patients who had no such problems.

It turned out that acute disturbances of sleep disturbed almost nine percent of US residents and eight percent of Britons. Patients complained of fatigue during the day, loss of concentration and the feeling that at night they do not sleep at all.

It was found that about 32-36% of UK residents have a non-permanent appearance of insomnia, but such precedents still happen several times a year.

Also, scientists found that acute insomnia can turn into a chronic insomnia in a short time - this problem was found in 21.43% of those suffering from insomnia.

According to Dr. Ellis, this research is the first of its kind. The results of the survey give an idea of the scale of this problem and the speed of its spread. Specialists hope for the possibility of further systematic studies of insomnia.

"The information we received is the key to curing a serious problem of the modern world. Our next step will be to study the factors that trigger sleep disorders, as well as methods to combat them. "

In order to have a sound sleep at night and a wonderful state of health during the day, experts advise:

  • daily go to bed at the same time to set their own internal clock. An upswing is also important at a certain time.
  • If you woke up at night and can not fall asleep again, do not fight with insomnia. Stay in bed and, for example, read the book until the sleepiness again overtakes you.
  • In the mornings, try to wake up at the appointed time and do not try to "watch" an interesting dream. By weekends this also applies - the spill on weekends threatens the distraction of attention on Mondays.
