Women who give birth after 30 or 40 years can significantly reduce the risk of developing endometrial cancer that develops in the lining layer of the uterus. This conclusion was drawn by scientists from the Medical School of Keck at the University of South Carolina (USA).

Specialists analyzed data from 17 studies involving 8,671 women with endometrial cancer and 16,562 women who did not suffer from this disease. Attention was drawn to the way in which the birth of children affected cancer risk; Other variable factors that alter the likelihood of developing the disease (use of contraceptives and the number of children) were also taken into account.

It turned out that those who gave birth after age 40 got endometrial cancer sick by 44% less often than those who became a mother at 25 years old or earlier. In subjects whose last birth was at 35-39 years, the probability of becoming a victim of the disease was reduced by 32%. And those who gave birth to the last child in 30-34 years fell ill 17% less than those who last gave birth to the age of 25 years.

The beneficial effect of childbirth was observed even during the aging of women, that is, it can be argued that protection against cancer persists for many years after childbirth. However, scientists can not explain the relationship between late delivery and the risk of endometrial cancer. Perhaps the prevention of the disease contributes to the hormonal level during pregnancy. In addition, labor can deliver the uterus from cells that cause cancer, or women who are able to conceive in adulthood have a healthier uterus compared to the rest.

In 2012, endometrial cancer will be diagnosed in 47,000 women in the United States; 8 thousand will die from this disease.
