A scientific group led by AK Radjasekaran, director of the Newmore Children's Cancer Center (USA), showed that the key protein involved in cellular functions and cellular regulation is blocked by the substance present in cigarette smoke. Information for the consideration of gentlemen smokers is presented in the journal American Journal of Physiology - Lung Cell and Molecular Physiology.
The fact that tobacco smoke is one of the causes of lung cancer, and also associated with many other forms of cancer in adults, is not proven today. It contains more than four thousand components, many of which are associated with the development and progress of lung cancer. Well, the new data clearly demonstrate that passive smoking is as dangerous as smoking, and everything is due to the influence exerted by the smoke components on the cells of the body.
In the present study, it was found that cancer-inducing agents, called reactive oxygen species (ROS, reactive oxygen species) and prone to inhibit normal cellular functions are present in the full volume in the gas phase of cigarette smoke. The inhalation of smoke produced by only two cigarettes almost completely stops the functioning of the potassium sodium potassium pump for several hours, which is fraught with damage or premature cell destruction.
Thus, it is more than clearly demonstrated that if not adults themselves, then at least children should be protected from cigarette smoke. Frequent passive smoking in childhood with adorable daddy in the kitchen can provoke the development of lung cancer in adulthood. And although more research is needed to understand all the consequences of inhibiting the sodium pump from the components of cigarette smoke, it is clear that passive smoking is even more dangerous than it was thought about.
