According to a new study by scientists from the University of Ben-Gurion (Israel), student girls who were more optimistic in the future have succeeded in their careers, unlike their less optimistic contemporaries. In male students, too much optimism will lead to excessive self-confidence and poor schooling, and, as a consequence, to career problems in the future.

"The optimism of male students can lead to an overconfidence, accompanied by the motto" everything will be fine, "says Tamar Isexon, Ph.D., Faculty of Business and Management, Ben-Gurion University in Glazer. In their student years they prefer to have fun.

Isexon, along with Professor Ayala Malak-Pines, Dean of the Faculty of Business at Ben-Gurion University, analyzed the attitudes toward studies of 174 students, of whom 28% were men and 72% women aged 20-28.

Scientists have focused their research on positive psychology, namely the influence of positive emotions and thinking on behavior.

In the study, each participant anonymously answered the questions of the questionnaire. Optimism was assessed using the "life orientation" test. This test consists of 10 questions, such as: "Life seems to me always exciting and exciting," "In life I have no specific goals and intentions," "Every day seems to me always new and different from others", etc.

The results of the study showed that the more optimistic male students turned out to be less conscientious, and, therefore, they considered the robe to be academic. As for female students, optimistic girls showed more conscientiousness than their male counterparts. Women showed a lower self-esteem, and in order to prove their worth, they were more responsible for their studies.
