For Ukrainians, the primary social problems are low wages and rising prices. The population is least concerned about the problems of smoking and the language issue.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Bureau of Statistical Analysis (BSA), which was announced today by the head of BSA Maria Chernov.
The most important social problems that require priority solutions, respondents mentioned, in particular, low wages, rising food prices, a decline in the national economy, unemployment and corruption. More than a third of the respondents named these problems. At the same time smoking in this list of problems occupies the penultimate place, having passed only language questions before itself.
According to polls, 26% of respondents smoke now and 20% smoked earlier. Among the reasons for the initiation of smoking in the first place, they called the influence of friends (35%) and the desire to seem adult (12%). On the question "Will the increase of excise duty on cigarettes decide the problem of smoking?" 77% of respondents answered negatively. At the same time, 75% of respondents believe that an increase in the excise tax on cigarettes will lead to an increase in shady sales of tobacco products. Also, 77% said they would continue to smoke while raising the price of cigarettes, including through increased excise taxes, and only 18% of the smokers interviewed said they would quit smoking in this case.
"This problem (tobacco smoking - UNIAN) is, but it requires professional approaches, and we are dealing with outright propaganda. If you look at the results of the research, you can see that people know about the problem, in other words, the information reaches them, propaganda is in full swing, but there is no sense in this propaganda, "said Vladimir Demchak, president of the Ukrainian trade and industrial confederation. "There is propaganda for a healthy lifestyle, and there is a healthy lifestyle.
The society was offered propaganda for a healthy lifestyle, but is given out for a healthy lifestyle. And it was not and is not, and it is not clear how it is going to be achieved by both governmental bodies and public organizations, "V. Demchak noted.
He stressed that people are worried about other social problems, and they should be addressed first. "I do not want to say that you do not need to deal with tobacco and solve the problem of smoking. Exactly necessary, but other methods, those that give the result. It is necessary to adopt such governmental decisions and laws that would realize a healthy lifestyle in Ukraine. And let the same excises that are collected from tobacco and alcohol, etc., go for these purposes, "V. Demchak added.
The survey was conducted in September this year. By telephone interview and Internet survey. 1600 residents of the largest cities were interviewed.
