World Suicide Prevention Day is held on 10 September to strengthen commitment and encourage action to prevent this phenomenon around the world. On average, about 3 thousand people per day commit suicide. For every such person, there are 20 or more people who have attempted suicide.
Together with the sponsor, the International Association for Suicide Prevention, WHO and other partners are advocating for proper treatment and follow-up care for people attempting suicide, as well as a more balanced coverage of suicides in the media.
WHO is convinced that national governments should develop a policy framework for national suicide prevention strategies. At the local level, policy statements and the results of scientific research should find their practical implementation in the form of programs and prevention measures among the population.
According to statistics, in Ukraine in recent years, the number of suicides among young people aged 15 to 19 years has increased.
Experts explain this by the lack of motivation for young people to live.
Recall previously reported that the number of suicides in Ukraine only in 2009 increased by 2.7% (or 259 cases) compared with 2008. This is evidenced by the data of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
