In 300 thousand dollars, the State Ecological Inspectorate estimated the damage from the spill of oil products off the coast of Odessa. This was reported by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry, only 914.5 kg of oil products were collected from the beaches of the Odessa region. The culprit of the spill - the Cypriot ship "Baltic Chif 1" was detained in the port of Nikolaev. The captain will have to pay a fine of UAH 23.8 thousand for violating the rules of business in the exclusive economic zone of Ukraine.
Oil polluted about a kilometer of the beaches of Ilyichevsk. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses say that they saw oil stains at the 16th station of the Big Fountain in Odessa, near the village of Sauvignon (Chernomorka) and further, up to the resort of Carolino-Bugaz.
Employees of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the North-Western Black Sea region have identified the perpetrators of the pollution.
They were the Russian tanker "Orion A" and the Cypriot "Baltic Chiff 1". The leak occurred at a time when fuel oil was pumped from one vessel to another. Because of the failure of the hose, 5 tons of oil products fell on the deck of the Baltic Ship. About 300 liters poured into the sea. Shipowners will have to pay a fine.
The governor said that the coast of the Odessa region has been completely cleared of oil products and thanks to the well-coordinated work of rescue services and volunteers of the environmental disaster it was avoided.
At the same time, environmentalists predict serious pollution consequences.
