The number of Americans with a history of cancer currently stands at 13.7 million. It is projected that by 2022 this figure will grow to 18 million.

According to the Cancer Treatment and Survivorship Facts and Figures, compiled by the specialists of the American Cancer Society, the number of cancer patients is growing due to the aging population and the increase in the number of inhabitants of the Earth. In addition, the survival rate of cancer patients is improving.

The three most common cancers in men who have suffered oncology are prostate cancer (43%), colon and rectum (9%), and melanoma (7%). Women who survived after oncological disease - breast cancer (41%), uterus (8%), colorectal and rectum (8%).

Almost half (45%) of survivors are people aged 70 years and older, and only 5% are patients younger than 40 years. The age median of cancer patients at the time of cancer diagnosis is 66 years. In the United States, there are 58,510 survivors of cancer in childhood, and in 2012, this disease will be diagnosed in another 12,060 children.

The majority of cured oncology patients were diagnosed more than five years ago, and 15% had more than 20 years ago.

The Cancer Treatment and Survivorship Facts and Figures Report is published in the CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.

Recall that a moderate intake of alcoholic beverages increases the risk of recurrence of cancer by 30%. By "moderate reception" is meant at least three or four servings of alcohol per week, and the type of drink does not play any role.
