Ukraine loses more than 700 thousand Ukrainians every year, and 1/3 of them are people of working age.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Healthcare, Tatyana Bakhteyeva, spoke about this in an interview during the III International Conference on the topic: “Who will help medicine recover: searching for a recipe,” which is taking place today in Kyiv.
The mortality rate in Ukraine is 15.2, and in the member countries of the European Union 6.7 per 1000 population.
Ukrainians live 10 years less than residents of the EU and many CIS countries. Our country ranks 150th among 223 countries in the world in terms of average life expectancy. Average life expectancy in Ukraine is 69 years, in the European Union – 74 years, and in the CIS countries: in Georgia – 76.7, in Moldova – 70.8, in Belarus – 70.63, in Uzbekistan – 71.9, etc. At the same time, the average healthy life expectancy in Ukraine is 59.2 years, and in European countries – 67 years.
Tatyana Bakhteyeva reported that Ukraine has very high rates of infant and male mortality. "The infant mortality rate is 2.5 times higher than European rates... The mortality rate of men of working age exceeds the same rate even in countries where the gross national product is 4-6 times lower than in Ukraine."
It should be noted that Ukraine has one of the highest mortality rates from cardiovascular diseases in the world: 64% of the total mortality rate, which is about 500 thousand people per year.
