American scientists have conducted several studies on vegetable oils and reported that extra virgin olive oil can significantly reduce the risk of developing a disease called Alzheimer's disease. After the assumption was confirmed by specialists who study neurodegenerative diseases, the Americans' statement can be considered not without meaning.
For a long time, neurologists at Louisiana State University (USA) have been studying possible treatments for Alzheimer's disease, which is considered the most common form of age-related dementia. In the process of studying the complex disease, the head of the study discovered that a substance called oleocanthal, which is found in large quantities in olive oil, can prevent the development of this dangerous disease. This substance helps destroy protein in brain tissue cells. A high concentration of protein can trigger Alzheimer's disease; in normal quantities, the protein, which is called beta-amyloid, is not dangerous. Olive oil contains oleocanthal, which has an anti-inflammatory effect in the body and restores the normal balance of beta-amyloid protein in the human nervous system.
If we look at the statistics, we can see that the inhabitants of the Mediterranean countries are the least susceptible to Alzheimer's disease. American experts claim that this pattern is connected with the diet of the inhabitants of the Mediterranean: olive oil is present in the daily diet of every person.
Alzheimer's disease is one of the most common diseases of the nervous system, with people over 65 at risk. Each patient may experience the disease differently, but there are common symptoms in any case. The first signs of the disease are sometimes associated with nervous stress, depression, or the influence of age. At the earliest stage, patients experience memory impairment, irritability, slurred speech, and even aggression. Over time, the ability to understand what is said and the ability to express oneself clearly is impaired.
At the moment, medicine cannot explain the causes of Alzheimer's disease. Numerous studies show that the disease is associated with the formation of neurofibrillary clusters in the brain tissue. Modern therapy can only alleviate the symptoms and bring some relief to the patient; methods of complete healing are still unknown to medicine.
In developed countries, Alzheimer's disease is one of the leading diseases that burden society. Several American companies are developing a drug that can alleviate the disease, as there is currently no drug that can cure Alzheimer's disease.
Among the methods of preventing Alzheimer's disease, the most popular are considered to be stimulation of logical thinking, daily physical activity, balanced nutrition. The Mediterranean diet, which can be considered a healthy nutrition system, is the best way to prevent a dangerous disease. Fresh vegetables, sea fish and olive oil will help you feel better and avoid age-related diseases of the nervous system.
