Many future mothers and dads in advance try to guess the sex of the future baby, paying attention to all kinds of signs and beliefs.

From the school bench, we remember that the sex of the future person is determined by a pair of chromosomes that gets to a woman with a sperm : X and Y. If the female chromosomes XX are connected to Y, then a boy is born, and if with X, a girl will be born. But: the probability that a child will be born male or female, is defined as 50 to 50. How to predict the sex of the child?

Recently, Canadian experts have voiced the opinion that the blood pressure at the mother before conception predetermines the sex of the baby.

Until now, science could not clearly justify the birth of boys or girls in the family. Theories of parents' eating habits, lifestyle, etc. Were voiced. For example, it was assumed that women who prefer meat and fish in their meals often give birth to boys, as well as those who actively participate in sports.

However, there were no clear theories confirmed in practice: the probability was about 50%. Now scientists hope that they have found a clue: the results of their work they published in the new edition of the American Journal of Hypertension.

The founder of the new theory was Professor Ravi Retnakaran, specialist in endocrinology, representing the Canadian Hospital of the Sinai Health System (Toronto). The co-authors of the project are employees of the Research Institute. Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum.

Volunteer scientists began to recruit from 2009. In the experiment, more than 1,400 young Chinese women living in the Liuang settlement (China) took part.

All participants were at the planning stage of pregnancy. At this time, they conducted all necessary laboratory and instrumental studies to find a "clue". Women were examined for cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides, and controlled blood pressure. As a rule, approximately 26-27 weeks passed from the beginning of the experiment to the beginning of pregnancy.

As a result, 739 boys and 672 girls were born.

The specialists summed up and found that one clear factor that was traced in women and determined the sex of the baby was the blood pressure indicators: those of the participants whose blood pressure indicators were overestimated became more likely mothers of boys.

Specialists evaluated the influence of other factors: age of participants, degree of their education, presence of bad habits, waist size, body mass index, low and high density lipoproteins, total cholesterol and glucose levels, etc. Were taken into account. However, a common feature only indicators of blood pressure.

"This factor was not treated with special attention before: it was considered doubtful that the blood pressure could play such a role - to determine the sex of the future baby. We can not find an explanation of how this factor is affected. Most likely, we will need additional experiments to test our assumption, "such comments were received from Professor Retnakaran.
