The state of water in the reservoirs of Ukraine this season is better than in the past. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine, the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Anatoly Ponomarenko today, June 20, at a briefing in the Government House.

"The water quality is much better this year than in the past, we have confirmation on this: figures, facts, reports, materials," Anatoly Ponomarenko said.

The state of water in the reservoirs of Ukraine this season is better than in the past.

In total, 1128 beaches and recreational areas should operate in the current wellness season. Mostly they are in AR Crimea, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Kherson, Mykolayiv regions. "We constantly monitor the water quality: As of June 19, there were 639 beaches, 56.5%, 607 at sea and 32 at the river coast," the chief state sanitary doctor said. Now, according to him, 9 beaches in the Crimea, Odessa and Mykolaiv regions have been closed. However, part of the Ukrainian beaches have not yet been opened, mainly due to the lack of permits. The Sanitary and Epidemiological Service conducts constant laboratory quality control of sea and river water. Recently, 523 samples have been examined, of which the vast majority are normal.

"Only 0.8% or 4 of the samples that were examined did not meet the requirements of the standard for microbial contamination. The greatest amount of inappropriate standards was accounted for by river water, but this is still only 4% of the samples," Anatoly Ponomarenko specified.
