A formula for the ideal holiday, which only mathematicians can understand, has been invented by a scientist from the University of Sussex, the British newspaper Daily Mail reports, citing a study conducted at the request of the Holiday Inn hotel chain.
According to this formula, the ideal vacation is a three-day vacation with maximum relaxation and minimum worries, no more than 4 hours from home.
According to the study, the ideal vacation is impossible without a number of related factors, including the duration, cost of the trip, as well as such components as boredom, relaxation and worries.
"The research shows that many people are taking such a stressful holiday that they return home feeling more exhausted than restored," the publication quotes the formula's inventor, David Lewis, as saying. In his opinion, the study of the problem helps explain the growing popularity of short breaks among UK residents, who prefer to relax during long weekends.
The scientist believes that the purpose of a vacation is to give the human body a boost of energy and help people return home refreshed and invigorated.
"Given the over-indulgence that people indulge in while on holiday - from too much sun to overeating and drinking - longer holidays mean greater potential health risks," says David Lewis.
