Living on the coast is wonderful, but this splendor has another important bonus: good health. People who live on the coast are healthier than those who live inland. This is the conclusion reached by researchers who analyzed information on the health of more than 48 million people in England. It was found that the closer people live to the coast, the better their health over the past year. And this is after taking into account factors such as age, gender, social status and the presence of green spaces.
The difference from those living on the coast was relatively small. About 1% of the population had better health than those who lived thirty miles or more from the sea. However, according to researchers from the Exeter College of Medicine and Dentistry, even such a small percentage has huge implications for the entire health system. According to experts, life by the coast is better in terms of health primarily because the marine environment reduces stress. Previous research has shown that a seaside holiday is the best way to relax and recharge your batteries for the whole year.
But this does not mean that everyone should immediately go live near the sea just to improve their health. The study has not yet found a cause-and-effect relationship, and it is quite possible that there are other factors that can explain this surprising phenomenon. One might think that only rich people who can afford better treatment go to live on the coast. However, the study also took into account the financial aspect. And the poor strata of the population can also boast of enviable health.
