Authorities in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore have put all health facilities on high alert due to the threat of a dengue fever epidemic, the BBC reports.

Let us recall that this year about 2.5 thousand cases of infection with the virus have been recorded in Pakistan, most of them in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.

On Friday, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered the immediate purchase of special pesticides from India to stop the spread of the virus.

Reference: Dengue fever is a dangerous tropical disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The acute viral infection is characterized by fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea and rash. Most cases of dengue fever are relatively mild, but in 5% of cases the disease is fatal.

Dengue fever usually lasts about 10 days, but full recovery can take up to a month. There is no vaccine for the disease.
