The first case of German intestinal infection has been reported in the Netherlands

At the beginning of the week, German doctors reported a mass poisoning. As of Tuesday, there were more than 130 victims and two deaths. At that time, epidemiologists named the enterohemorrhagic bacterium Escherichia coli as the causative agent of the infection. Doctors were surprised by the severity of the victims' condition and the fact that the lion's share of them were women.
According to some sources, the number of infected and suspected patients in Germany has reached 600 to date. Today it became known that the first case of a similar intestinal infection was recorded in the Netherlands, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment RIVM reports.
The infected Dutch citizen became infected during a trip to Germany. Apart from this information, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment has not released any further information about the identity of the patient.
According to preliminary estimates, the cause of the spread of the infection in Germany was poor quality vegetables and fruits. Epidemiologists suspect cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce. The Dutch Food Safety Authority has already announced that all German agricultural products will be subject to careful control.
