According to the level of fertility, the regions of Ukraine are divided into three groups.

The first one is depressive in relation to genital activity, to which the eastern regions belong. They are characterized by an ultra-low birth rate, which does not provide half of the population's recovery. This - Donetsk, Lugansk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye and Poltava regions, noted in the Ministry of Health.

The second group is the western regions, where the fertility rates are relatively high. They are characterized by relatively high total fertility rates - 1.2-1.6 children per woman. The Ministry of Health stressed that in the western regions the traditions of the two-year-old are still preserved, the lowest in Ukraine indices of the prevalence of abortions, twice the level of the extra-marital birth rate (the national level).

The third group, according to the department, is the demographically old regions of the center and the north, in which fertility and recreational rates are at the level of the average Ukrainian.

The Ministry of Health also explained that the decline in the birth rate, the loss of traditions of large families, is a fundamental tendency of the present. The demographic situation in the economically developed countries is also characterized by falling fertility to a low level, but it is accompanied by a significant increase in the average life expectancy, which restrains depopulation, the ministry explained.

The Ministry of Health notes that Ukraine is losing even the already won positions in relation to the prolongation of a person's life. The main factor in reducing the number of births in Ukraine was a marked decrease in the indicators of women's genital activity, are convinced in the Ministry of Health.

The department was informed that in 2011, children were born by 29.9 thousand more than in 2007. The total fertility rate of the population increased: from 10.2% in 2007 to 11.0% in 2011. The increase in the birth rate for the last five years is primarily a consequence of an increase in the number of potential mothers - women of childbearing age, born in the first half of the 80s, stressed in the department.
