One of the largest farms on the roof works entirely on renewable energy sources and yields every year a crop that is several times higher than the yield from conventional agricultural farms, while the products grown here do not contain chemicals and belong to the premium class.
The founders of the Brooklyn farm, Gotham Greens, somehow decided to expand their family business, but in a very unusual way. The new project was decided to be located on the roof of one of the factories, which is located in the southern part of Chicago. It is worth noting that the farm on the roof strikingly stands out against the background of other rural farms located in the city. The area of agricultural land occupies 6.9 thousand square meters on the roof of one of the plants. Chicago was chosen not casually for the embodiment of this idea in life, since this city is positioned as the most perfect on earth.
The area of about 7 thousand squares is certainly not enough for the cultivation of agricultural products, but thanks to the greenhouses all over the roof, even in this small area, a fairly good result is obtained.
On account of Gotham Greens, such a farm on the roof is the third (the first two are located in New York).
The greenhouses of the unusual agricultural land on the roof are equipped with climate control, so you can grow vegetables and greens all year round, regardless of the weather conditions. Tasty and ecologically clean food from the farm is planned to be delivered to nearby shops, restaurants, cafes and retailers, while the products will be delivered to customers immediately after harvesting.
According to one of the founders of the farm and the CEO of Gotham Greens, they have something to be proud of. First of all, we are talking about expanding the presence in the agricultural market and the opportunity to produce one of the best products. Especially the CEO of Gotham Greens Viraj Puri noted, the opportunity to supply grown on his own farm products for Chicago, the city of his childhood, in addition, to date, Chicago is a city of culinary innovations. Also representatives of the farm noted that the opportunity to provide residents of Pulman (southern Chicago area) with work and assistance in providing tasty, and most importantly healthy food, is also of no small importance.
A farm for fully renewable energy sources, now there is a well-coordinated team of 50 people. All vegetables and greens are grown without using chemicals with the help of sustainable methods. In each greenhouse, the control over temperature and humidity is carried out by high-tech equipment. As a result, one such farm is capable of producing 30 times more production than a conventional farm located on the outskirts of the city.
And the opportunity to eat not only tasty, but also useful vegetables and herbs without chemicals, especially if they are grown in such unusual conditions, certainly attracts the inhabitants of Chicago.
