The first period of seasonal allergies has already begun - spring allergies... But, since the concentration of plant pollen grains has not reached the threshold level, an outbreak of clinical manifestations of pollinosis (an allergic reaction to plant pollen) is not yet observed. Usually, symptoms of pollinosis occur when the concentration of plant pollen is more than 10-20 grains per m 2.

During the flowering period of trees, there are three periods of pollinosis. The first period is the flowering of trees, primarily birch, alder, hazel. These trees in Ukraine most often cause symptoms of early allergies. The second period is the flowering of cereals (rye, wheat), as well as lawn grasses, which are common in all cities... The third period is the flowering of weeds (ragweed, cyclohena, wormwood, quinoa).

Statistics show that the number of people suffering from pollinosis is steadily growing every year. The number of cases of pollinosis in Kyiv, compared to 2010, increased by 15-20% in 2011.

In order to reduce the symptoms of hay fever, it is first necessary to take measures aimed at reducing contact with pollen. A patient with hay fever should follow these recommendations:

  • Since the highest concentration of pollen in the air is observed early in the morning and on dry, hot days, it is better for a patient with hay fever not to walk outside during this period of the day.
  • At work and at home, if possible, do not open windows, especially in the early hours and preferably until early evening, use air purifiers that capture indoor plant pollen.
  • Patients suffering from hay fever should avoid outdoor activities.
  • When going outside, it is better for a person suffering from hay fever to wear tinted glasses.
  • During periods of hay fever exacerbation, take showers more often, which allows you to wash pollen off your body.
  • Close the windows in your car tightly, especially when outside the city.
  • When planning the next vacation, a patient suffering from hay fever needs to know the flowering periods of plants in the area of the resort chosen by the patient. The pollen content in the air on the sea coast and in the mountains is lower.
  • A patient suffering from hay fever should know the list of related plant allergens, food products and herbal preparations, since contact with such allergens can lead to an exacerbation of allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, the formation of urticaria, Quincke's edema, the appearance of asthma attacks and other symptoms of hay fever.
