Ecuador announced an emergency situation due to massive alcohol poisoning

In one of the provinces of Ecuador, an emergency regime was introduced due to mass poisoning of residents with homemade alcohol with toxic impurities.
The emergency mode is announced to last two months. For three days, the sale of all alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the territory of the province of Los Rios. Local police raids to remove from the public illegally produced surrogate.
To date, 23 people have become victims of moonshine. Most of them - 21 people - took part in one major celebration in the city of Rikauurt. Two deaths after drinking domestic alcohol are registered in the central part of the country. According to representatives of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health, the number of victims will increase.
In one of the private houses in Rikauert, police found cans of technical alcohol. On suspicion of involvement in mass poisoning, one resident was arrested.
The poisoned often have blindness and renal failure (symptoms of methanol poisoning). Death comes from cardiac arrest. To date, 103 poisoned have been discharged from the hospitals. The total number of cases is much larger.
