Scientists representing NITU MISiS and several other experimental centers, with the help of nanotechnology, developed an unusual material to prevent further development of caries and permanently protect teeth from damaging microorganisms.

"This discovery, without exaggeration, is recognized as revolutionary in the field of practical dentistry. The antimicrobial component can be used by implanting it in the filling material, as well as during other dental procedures - for example, in the setting up of dental implants. This can significantly extend their service life. We have already begun to apply this discovery in practice, namely, since the autumn of last year, "said Yakov Karasenkov, head and direct participant of the study, head physician of the clinical institution RosDent.

A group of specialists, along with the practicing associate professor of the department of the NITU "MISiS" Georgy Frolov, conducted studies of the properties of various nanoparticles, in which titanium, iron, zinc and other metals were present. As a result of the experiments, the scientists concluded: nanoparticles, even in the minimum concentration, can inhibit the growth and development of bacterial cells. Their action is close to the properties of antibiotics or enzymes that are produced in the body in response to infection.

According to Frolov, the introduction of nanoparticles into filling and other dental mixes will help solve the main issues that concern all patients of dental clinics - the periodic loss of seals, as well as the development of caries in places previously sealed. According to dentists, in the area of contact between the filling and dental tissue, over time, a microcrack is formed, in which bacteria are successfully accumulated and multiplied. In addition, the dental tissue and filling material have different water-repellent properties, which is also reflected in the future for the duration of the sealed area.

If you add a certain amount of nanoparticles to the filling material, this will create a permanent protection of the treated tooth cavity from bacteria, which will solve the problems outlined almost forever. Nanoparticles do not tend to break down, even in the presence of unfavorable external factors.

Caries is, on the one hand, a common common disease. But, on the other hand, this is the greatest problem with which dentistry deals. According to statistics, almost all people on earth - more than 95% - suffer from caries in varying degrees. Therefore, any scientific progress in this direction is welcomed by scientists all over the world.

Protective antimicrobial nanoparticles, according to Frolov, have already found application in the Russian clinical institution "RosDent", as well as in the Kirov State Medical Academy. The updated material for sealing is already approved by Roszdravnadzor, so soon it will be actively used by most commercial dental companies.
