About 65 million counterfeit medicines seized in China

Chinese law enforcement agencies have uncovered a criminal group that was manufacturing counterfeit drugs. In total, about 65 million counterfeit drugs were seized.
The investigation, which lasted about four months, was launched after a woman from Henan province was suspected of substituting counterfeit drugs for genuine ones.
As it became known to the Chinese police, the criminals organized the production of counterfeit drugs in 8 provinces of China. They produced counterfeit drugs using starch and corn flour as a base, and also repackaged expired drugs.
The tablets were found to contain animal feed, chemical dyes and other substances that could negatively affect human health.
More than a thousand police officers helped to uncover the criminal network. 117 underground laboratories were discovered that produced counterfeit drugs and sold them via the Internet and advertisements. Currently, 114 people have been arrested who were suspected of producing and organizing the distribution of counterfeit drugs to the population.
