Nutrition in the first days or weeks of life can have long-term effects on the health of the child, especially the risk of developing metabolic disorders. According to pediatricians, the baby's initial nutrition literally programs the work of the body's metabolism for the rest of his life.

A survey conducted by French doctors from the University of Claude Bernard in Lyon compared height, weight and blood pressure in three groups of healthy and term-born infants. One group received only breast milk during the first 4 months of life. Two other groups received baby food with low or high protein content.

For three years, doctors monitored the health and development of children. It was noted that babies who were exclusively breastfed during the first weeks of life had better metabolic profile, lower diastolic blood pressure, and generally had better health.
