Vitamin D has always been considered beneficial for health, in some cases it was even prescribed to infants. This vitamin is produced in our body under the influence of ultraviolet light, and scientists have repeatedly confirmed its benefits, for example, researchers have assured that vitamin D helps fight various diseases - depression, diseases of the musculoskeletal system. But recent studies have shown that this vitamin is not so useful.

A team of Californian specialists studied in detail various preparations containing vitamin D in different concentrations, as well as their effect on the human body. As a result, the specialists came to the conclusion that this vitamin is not as important for humans as has always been believed. Scientists noted that vitamin D does not prevent the development of diseases, and the noted positive properties, confirmed by various clinical studies, are just a placebo effect. All the preparations that the scientists studied showed low healing properties, and taking such supplements did not have a general strengthening effect on the body. Also, no relationship was found between the use of vitamin D and strong bones.

The head of the scientific group, Michael Allan, is sure that the properties of vitamin D are overestimated, according to him, he and his group were unable to find any evidence that this vitamin helps to cope with depression, strengthens the bone system or helps to reduce the risk of developing cancerous tumors.

But despite the fact that vitamin D turned out to be not as important for the body as previously thought, it still has some health benefits, Professor Allan's team noted, in particular this vitamin is necessary for patients who have already developed certain diseases (multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, some types of cancer).

Researchers from Australia came to completely opposite conclusions, having found out during their study that ultraviolet light, which promotes the production of vitamin D in the body, has great health benefits. It is this vitamin that plays a major role in various metabolic processes that occur in our body.

It is believed that the sun (light tanning) promotes the production of vitamin D and strengthens the immune system, a number of studies have confirmed this fact - with a deficiency of vitamin D in the body, children grow up sickly, are prone to frequent colds. Even for adults, a lack of sunlight can result in various chronic diseases, allergic reactions or bronchial asthma.

According to Australian scientists, in winter, when there is a lack of sunlight, lean sea fish containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (cod liver, halibut, salmon, cod liver, Atlantic herring) can help.

Scientists from different countries are studying vitamin D, but most of them confirm the benefits of this vitamin. Perhaps it is the natural vitamin D that our body produces under the influence of the sun that is beneficial, and not artificial additives, and, to some extent, both American and Australian researchers may be right.
