Currently, in modern medicine, many things are possible, even the question of sex change does not cause great difficulties. But in some cases, despite all the efforts, medicine is powerless. For example, it happened with a Belgian named Nancy, who, after changing her sex, felt disgust for herself.
Now Belgium is one of the few countries in which "assisted suicide", ie, assistance in voluntary withdrawal from life (euthanasia) is regulated at the legislative level. But one of the last cases of euthanasia, shocked even accustomed to such cases, local residents.
At the age of 45, Nathan Fergelst voluntarily left this world. He did not suffer from severe cancer, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis - none of the main reasons why sick Belgians and residents of other countries decide to resort to such radical measures as medical suicide. In 2009, Nathan began the process of sex change (before that time he was a woman). Even in his childhood, he realized that in the female body is a man's soul. Since 2009, Nancy has gradually turned into Nathan - hormone therapy in conjunction with the surgical removal of female sexual characteristics. The final stage of reincarnation was the last operation for the plastic of the penis, which was done just a few months ago. However, contrary to all expectation, man's dignity brought Nathan into a severe depression, with which he could not cope.
According to Belgian law, Nathan had every right to resort to euthanasia. One of these days the doctor has entered Nathan (Nancy) a lethal structure of preparations. Before that, Nathan shared his experiences with the newspaper Het Laatse Nieuws, namely he stated that after the operation he was going to celebrate his second birthday, but instead, when he looked at himself in the mirror after the operation, he became disgusting.
According to the doctor who conducted euthanasia, for about six months Nathan talked with doctors, in particular with psychiatrists. During the interviews it was found that the patient's psychological problems are much harder than the usual depressive disorder. Nathan suffered severe psychological suffering, and by law he could use the services of a specialized clinic for suicide.
In recent years, about 2% of deaths in Belgium are due to euthanasia, and the number of Belgian citizens who wished to leave this world in this way has increased by 25% since 2011.
According to the laws of Belgium, euthanasia is possible at the personal request of a person, executed in writing and only provided that he is mortally sick and subjected to severe physical and mental suffering. In addition, the patient must be of legal age and not have mental abnormalities. Currently, Belgium is preparing a series of amendments to the law, which will specify the issues of medical suicide up to the age of 15 years. Also, it may be possible to use euthanasia for Alzheimer's patients, but only on the condition that all documentary wishes on this matter will be drawn up before the loss of memory.
