The National Academy of Surgery in France has condemned unreasonable surgical operations to resize the penis in men. Studies of French surgeons show that in most cases, on such operations, men insist, the size of the sexual members of which correspond to the physiological norm.

The number of such patients is about 85% of the total number of those who applied for help to surgeons. In addition, in most cases, the existing methods for correcting the size of the penis are of questionable efficacy and often lead to serious complications.

In particular, the most common surgical procedure of elongation of the penis with the help of dissection of the ligament, suspending the penis often leads to erectile dysfunction. And the penis enlargement with implantation of own fat tissue gives only a temporary and insignificant cosmetic effect, whereas the use of artificial fillers, in the opinion of the Academy, should be generally prohibited.

The authors of the report insist on the use of such surgical techniques only in emergency cases, such as congenital malformations of genital organs, traumatic injuries of genital organs.

To clarify this sensitive issue, the Academy of Surgery recalls that the average din of the penis at rest is 9 -9.5 cm, in the state of erection - 12.8-14.5 cm, the circumference of the penis at rest - 8.5 -9 cm, in the state of erection - 10-10.5 cm.
