The National Academy of Surgery in France has condemned unjustified surgical operations to change the size of the penis in men. Research by French surgeons shows that in most cases such operations are insisted on by men whose penis size corresponds to the physiological norm.

The number of such patients is about 85% of the total number of those who seek help from surgeons. In addition, in most cases, existing methods of correcting the size of the penis have questionable effectiveness and often lead to serious complications.

In particular, the most common surgical operation of penis lengthening by cutting the ligament that suspends the penis often leads to erectile dysfunction. And penis enlargement by implanting one's own fatty tissue gives only a temporary and minor cosmetic effect, while the use of artificial fillers, according to the Academy, should be prohibited altogether.

The authors of the report insist on the use of such surgical techniques only in emergency cases, such as congenital anomalies in the development of the genital organs, traumatic injuries to the genital organs.

To clarify this delicate issue, the Academy of Surgery reminds that the average length of the penis at rest is 9-9.5 cm, in an erect state - 12.8-14.5 cm, the circumference of the penis at rest is 8.5-9 cm, in an erect state - 10-10.5 cm.
