84% of Ukrainians support the adoption of a law that will prohibit smoking inside most public premises, including all workplaces, dwellings, offices. Such a conclusion is contained in a study conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology.

A high level of support for smokeless premises is recorded in all regions of the country. The largest - in the East and North - 88%, the smallest, but also preferable, in the West -78%. The law is supported by 92% of women and 76% of men.

Legislation on a complete ban on smoking in restaurants and cafes is supported by 77% of the population, in bars - 74% of the population.

Only 91% of Ukrainians recognize passive smoking as harmful to health: 35% of Ukrainians are "very worried" when fumigated, 31% "strong enough," 16% "just a little" and 17% "do not care".

83% of Ukrainians believe that the rights of clients and employees to breathe clean, smoke-free air, in particular in restaurants, bars and cafes are higher than the rights of smokers there to smoke. The rights of smokers to pollute the air with toxic substances of tobacco smoke are put above only 8% of Ukrainians.

The government should do more to protect every employee, including restaurant workers, bars and cafes, from exposure to cigarette smoke from other people - 88% of Ukrainians believe so.

Recall that the anti-smoking bill No. 9474 "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine (Regarding the Improvement of Certain Provisions on Restriction of Smoking Sites of Tobacco Products)" was registered on the World No Smoking Day on November 17, 2011 by 12 alternative deputies of different political forces. If the bill is adopted, all institutions of culture and sports, as well as indoor facilities of cafes, bars, restaurants will be 100% smoke-free.

"Adoption of the bill will lead to a significant reduction in the negative impact of tobacco smoke on people," said MP Tatyana Bakhteyeva, chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health, while the main responsibility will be placed on the owners of institutions, which will facilitate the practical implementation of legislative requirements and Ukraine's international obligations to protect people from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke. In addition, this will lead to a reduction in mortality and, and - reducing the number of fires. "

Reference. The Kiev International Institute of Sociology conducted a nationwide survey of 1,000 adult Ukrainians over the age of 18, selected randomly, from November 27 to December 7, 2011. The statistical sampling error of 1000 respondents with a confidence of 0.95 does not exceed ± 3.2%.
