Winter is the period of the greatest number of colds and flu. No one likes to be sick, take pills, gargle and helplessly lie in bed, but if you or your loved ones are caught by a cold and your temperature rises, do not panic and do not rush to swallow antipyretic pills or stuff them into the patient. Medicines, as we know, can have side effects.
An increase in temperature is nothing more than the body's defenses in response to bacteria and viruses. If you can no longer bear the temperature, there are several ways to reduce it without using pills and mixtures.
Cool
Contrary to popular belief that a person with a high temperature should be wrapped in three blankets, this can do the opposite - only harm. Moreover, it is unsafe to put heating pads on him or turn on heating devices. Such overheating can cause heat stroke. Unnecessary heat should go away, and the room temperature should be 20-21 degrees.
More water
Elevated temperature literally squeezes all the juices out of the body, so the patient needs to drink plenty of fluids to maintain the water balance at a normal level. But do not overdo it with the amount of sugar.
Rubdowns
Wipe the patient with a damp towel. When the water evaporates, it will increase the heat output. The main thing to remember is that the water temperature should be equal to the patient's body temperature. Too cold water will cause chills, followed by another increase in temperature. Vinegar or alcohol should not be used - their mechanism of action is the same as that of cold water. Repeat wiping every 30 minutes.
Enema
Another effective way to get rid of a high fever is to give an enema. To make an enema, prepare a solution of cold boiled water and salt: dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt in water. You can also add 10-15 drops of beetroot juice. It will be enough to give a child 50 ml of liquid.
Compresses
Compresses are a good way to reduce the temperature at home. To do this, prepare a mint decoction and soak towels in it. The prepared compresses should be placed on the patient's forehead, wrists, temples and groin folds. The towels should be changed every 10 minutes.
Saline solution
A high temperature can be driven away with the help of a saline solution. This solution is also called hypertonic. One or two teaspoons of salt are added to 200 ml of warm boiled water. Children aged from six months to 1.5 years can be given 70 to 100 ml of this solution to drink. The hypertonic solution is used as a preventive measure against water absorption through the intestinal walls and also helps to remove it with feces.
Raspberry decoction
The best diaphoretic effect is possessed by a decoction of raspberries. Remember, the closer the temperature of the drink to the body temperature, the better and faster it will work. By the way, berry juice from cranberries has a good anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect.
