Skinoren (azelaic acid) is a medication that is widely used to treat a variety of skin problems, especially acne (acne) and rosacea. Azelaic acid, the main active ingredient in Skinoren, has a number of benefits for the skin:
- Antibacterial Action: Azelaic acid helps to reduce the number of bacteria that can cause acne. It effectively fights the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes, which is often associated with the development of acne.
- Anti-inflammatory: Skinoren reduces inflammation in the skin, which helps reduce the redness and irritation associated with acne and rosacea.
- Reduce sebumproduction: Azelaic acid can help reduce sebum production, which reduces the risk of clogged pores and acne.
- Exfoliation: The product helpsexfoliate keratinized skin cells, improving skin texture and reducing the likelihood of clogged pores.
- Pigmentation Reduction: Azelaic acid can help reduce hyperpigmentation and age spots associated with acne, post-acne and other skin problems.
Skinorin is usually available as a gel or cream for external use. It is applied to clean and dry skin once or twice a day, depending on your doctor's recommendations. Results usually become noticeable after a few weeks of regular use. As with any other medical product, it is recommended that you consult your doctor before starting to use Skinoren.
Indications Skynorrhea
- Acne (acne): Skinoren is effective in treating various forms of acne, including blackheads, black spots, and inflamed papules and pustules. It helps to reduce the amount of acne, reduce inflammation and prevent new rashes from forming.
- Rosacea: This drug is also indicated in the treatment of rosacea, a chronic skin disorder characterized by redness, inflammation and flushing of the facial skin, and the appearance of red papules and pustules.
- Hyperpigmentation: Skinoren can help reduce hyperpigmentation, including age spots and post-acne, due to its property of reducing melanin production in the skin.
- Post-acne: After acne disappears, spots or scars on the skin are often left behind. Skinoren can help reduce their appearance and speed up the healing process.
- Keratosis: This medicine may also be used to treat keratoses (rough patches of skin) on the face and body.
Release form
Skinoren, containing the active ingredient azelaic acid, is available in two main forms of release for external use:
1. Cream
Skinoren cream usually contains 20% azelaic acid. This form is suitable for treating acne (acne) and rosacea. The cream has a consistency that is well absorbed by the skin, making it suitable for normal to dry skin.
2. Gel
Skinoren gel usually contains 15% azelaic acid and is recommended for treating the same conditions as the cream. The gel is lighter than a cream and may be preferred for oily skin because it is less greasy and absorbs more quickly.
Pharmacodynamics
- Antibacterial action: Azelaic acid is active against bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes, which play a role in the development of acne. This antibacterial action helps to reduce acne and reduce skin inflammation.
- Keratolytic action: The product promotes exfoliation ofkeratinized skin cells, which helps prevent the formation of comedones and reduces the risk of inflammatory elements.
- Anticomedogenic action: Azelaic acid helps to reduce sebum production, which helps to reduce the size and number of comedones.
- Antioxidant Action: Azelaic acid has antioxidant properties that help protect the skin from free radicals and prevent skin cell damage.
Pharmacokinetics
Since azelaic acid is mainly applied topically, its systemic exposure and pharmacokinetics in the blood remain minimal. It is usually not absorbed in significant amounts through the skin and has no systemic effects on the body. Its main mechanism of action is to reduce the number of bacteria in skin pores, reduce inflammation and regulate skin keratinization.
Dosing and administration
Method of Application:
- Skin cleansing: Before applying Skinoren, the skin should be thoroughly cleaned with a mild cleanser and dried. This will help to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Application: Apply a small amount of cream or gel to affected skin areas in a thin layer. Avoid contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes, mouth and nose.

- To minimize the risk of side effects, it is important to strictly follow the recommendations for use specified by the doctor and in the instructions for the drug, including the frequency and method of application.

Overdose of Skinoren is unlikely due to its topical application. However, if a large dose is swallowed or applied to large areas of skin, skin irritation, tingling or burning, and blistering may occur.
Interactions with other drugs
Interactions between azelaic acid, the main active ingredient in Skinoren, and other drugs are largely unstudied due to the fact that azelaic acid is usually used topically to treat skin conditions. Such topical preparations rarely cause systemic interactions with other drugs.
